The fish finder/GPS screen is not mounted, and simply sits in my lap. I can put it out of the way if I need to. The system can be put on and removed from just about any sit on top kayak in a matter of minutes. Just plug in the power, bungee down the milk crate and you are ready to hit the water. Once in the water, simply pull out and rotate the transducer arm down in to the water.
Installed a Lowrance Mark 4 fishfinder/GPS combo for kayak. Along with the fishfinder and GPS, the Mark 4 gives also give you readings from a water temperature sensor, a battery monitor, and a built in clock. Entire system is self contained in a milk crate. The crate has a shoulder strap for easy trasnport. 12v/7 amp hour dry cell battery with 10 amp fuse. The battery, extra transducer cord, and all electrical connections are protected from water in a medium dry bag. Transducer arm can be extended in/out and rotated up to avoid damage during transport and water entry/exit. The transducer can rotated up in order to avoid drag. A T bracket (PVC) is added to the back of the milk crate to keep the transducer arm from over-rotating and to help the transducer stay parallel to the bottom.
